We have a hotel! Rust City Book Con will take place at the Detroit Marriott Troy, August 12 – 14th, 2016!
Our room rate will be $115/per night (plus taxes and fees). The reservation link will be emailed out once you’re registered. It is suggested that if you think you are going to make it to Rust City, that you reserve your room now. It’s possible Rust City will be happening the same weekend as the Woodward Dream Cruise, so they’ll get busy beginning next spring.
If we do end up being the same weekend as the Dream Cruise, that’s not necessarily a bad thing – especially if you’re a car enthusiast. We’re talking about a lot of classic and vintage cars, all over the place, preening for attention. I’m told it’s a car lover’s dream, especially Mustang Alley; and while it’s typically just the weekend, there’s always cars around and things to do the week leading up to it.
Registration is open!
My goal was to keep it reasonable, but still ensure there’s a lot of fun going on. So I’m hoping $85 for the weekend isn’t too bad, plus that does seem like the standard for a lot of book conventions, so I’m hoping it’s good. However, you can take advantage of an early bird registration rate of $75 if you register by April 1, 2016. Or should I just say soon so you’ll do it sooner? *grin*
That rate will include food, I’m just not sure how yet. Personally, I’m not a fan of meals at conventions since it’s so hard to please everyone and you know the meals can be hit or miss. So I’m playing with how to do food. The ideas jumping around in my head at the moment is lunch Friday and Saturday with cocktail appetizers & desserts for the evening activities, leaving dinner to you. The hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to anywhere within a 5 mile radius, and there are a lot of restaurants in the area to check out.
I’ve already started inviting authors to join us for the weekend, and as they register, they’ll be added to the Attending Authors page. I already have 2 who said they would love to come, so I should have more updates about who will be here for the public signing soon.
Oh yeah! There will be a public signing on Saturday, August 13, 2016, time to be determined. Unlike other conventions, I am going to charge $5 for entry to the public signing. The reason behind this is to acquire a little buffer for the following year, that way I’m not dependent on registrations for the down payment at the hotel.
Let’s see…I feel like there have been more updates I need to share, but I’m drawing a blank. We’ll leave it at that for the moment.
So who’s getting excited?
